Ann Dorney is a retired family physician who practiced in Skowhegan for 40 years doing full spectrum family medicine, including delivering about 1200 pregnant women. She was Maine Family Doctor of the Year in 1996 and was one of the doctors featured in the book Heirs of General Practice. She spent one term in the Maine House of Representatives and submitted the first Narcan and opioid use disorder bill in the Maine House. She helped found an alternative sentencing program at the Somerset County Jail called ASAP for people with substance use disorder and worked on local issues including increasing breastfeeding rates in her community, encouraging parents to read to their kids by donating 17,000 books to preschoolers 3 and under, educating the medical staff and community about the importance and impact of ACEs, and local environmental issues. She is married to Dr. David Axelman and has 2 grown children.
