Dr. KJ Williams has been working in palliative medicine for the past 20 years. She entered medicine after an experience working in a shelter for women who were homeless in DC, which led to an interest in providing care to those with socioeconomic difficulties. She completed family medicine residency in inner-city Milwaukee and a fellowship in palliative medicine at the Marshfield Clinic in central Wisconsin. She has worked throughout her career in hospital, clinic, and hospice settings, and was involved in training palliative medicine fellows at the Marshfield Clinic and the University of Wisconsin. She moved to Maine in 2019 where she serves as the director of hospice and palliative medicine for VA Maine. Having grown up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, she appreciates working again in a more rural setting. She values the opportunity to provide further training in goal shifting and end of life care for palliative and geriatric medicine fellows and other learners.
