Prior to joining VA Maine HCS in 2021, Dr. Beyea served as the program director of Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency’s geriatric medicine fellowship and the medical director of Maine Dartmouth Geriatric Medicine, an interdisciplinary geriatric primary and specialty consultative clinic serving rural older adults in central Maine. During her VA Maine tenure, Dr. Beyea has expanded home-based primary care (HBPC) across the state which offers an interdisciplinary approach to primary care in the home setting; secured funding for a home health aide pilot project that aims to embed certified nursing assistants as an integral part of HBPC care teams; established a telehealth consultative model to expand age-friendly specialty services to rural outpatient clinics through Geriatrics Research and Clinical Center (GRECC) Connect funding; expanded and aligned community programs and partnerships to ensure coordination of services across multiple community programs; and is establishing an age-friendly Patient Aligned Care Team (Geri-PACT) that will provide specialty consultative and primary care services at a community-based outpatient clinic with the goal of creating a hub and spokes framework to broadly standardize age-friendly assessment and intervention pathways to optimize best practice in the care of older veterans. Dr. Beyea also serves as the president of the Dirigo Maine Geriatrics Society and is working to build collaborative interprofessional partnerships among community advocates, educators, clinicians, administrators, healthcare leaders, and other stakeholders who prioritize innovative strategies to inform age-friendly clinical and community models of care aimed at improving the health and well-being of rural older adults throughout Maine.
